Collection: Decoration
Collection of 3D printed decoration
This is another collection post featuring 3D-printed decorations. I usually prefer decorations that are also useful, but sometimes they are a good fit for a small gift for friends. Other times they are just fun objects, and occasionally I end up finding an actual use for them.
Model: Perky Tailed Cat Figurine
I hosted a themed party based on Greek mythology. I fed my guests plenty of raisins and wine, of course, and I printed these two statues to decorate the space.
Model: Athena of Velletri, Bust of Mars at the Thorsvalden Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark
Both models come from Scan the World, a non-profit initiative whose mission is to archive objects of cultural significance using 3D scanning technologies and make them available for 3D printing.
My parents asked me to print statues for their fish tank. This introduced a new challenge: the prints needed to be sealed with a food-safe material. I used a food-grade epoxy resin. The prints have now been in the tank for about a year and are still in perfect condition.
There was one tiny itty bitty detail I forgot to consider when making them. The models were not heavy enough and floated.
My mother solved the issue by adding small rocks and fixing them in place with super glue
Models: Winged Victory of Samothrace, Fish Tank Underground Hiding Cave with Floor
Here they are inside the tank. Fish photo for scale.
I was looking for a way to store my scrunchies and came across this model. I printed it without supports to avoid wasting plastic. The chin area came out slightly damaged, but a bit of sanding fixed it.
Model: Ringosaurus Ring Holder
This boat was printed in two parts and glued together. To achieve a smoother finish, I filled the seams with wood filler and sanded them down. I then painted the model.
Model: String Schooner Model
This was an early FDM print. At the time, I was experimenting with multicolor printing and the AMS. If I were to print it again today, I would print it entirely in white and paint the black cat section.
Model: Hanging Cat Ornament
This was a relatively simple two-part print made for a friend who owns a French Bulldog.
Model: Cool Pit Bull Ornaments
I printed this Gestral model from Clair Obscur for a friend’s birthday, and Krayorn painted it. I’m not too fond of the chosen color palette, but the birthday friend loved it.
Model: Gestral from Expedition 33 Articulated Figure with Brush Hair Slot
This Lord of the Rings lamp was printed in two parts: one using black matte filament, and the other using transparent PETG.
It currently sits in my Pile of Shame because I never bought the electronics needed to make it functional.
Model: Ring Lamp with Replaceable Panels
What better way to decorate a bookshelf than with a dragon?
Model: Dragon Door Corner Topper
This is a resin print I made several years ago. I initially printed it because I liked the design, and later realized it could work as a necklace hook. It now hangs on my bathroom wall.
Model: Witcher towel hook
